We are seeking a motivated and curious Junior Sustainability Consultant to join our growing ESG and Climate Services team. The role involves assisting companies in preparing for mandatory climate-related risk disclosures and voluntary ESG reporting, providing technical support and strategic insights.
As an ESG and Climate consultant, you will play a crucial role in supporting a range of carbon, climate and sustainability consulting engagements. Your experience and willingness to learn will contribute to our commitment to advocating and supporting environmental stewardship, regulatory compliance, and transparent reporting practices among our clients.

Responsibilities:
ESG and climate reporting
- Assist in implementing frameworks such as the AASB S1 and S2 (IFRS S1 and S2) to meet mandatory reporting requirements.
- Support climate risk assessments, including physical and transitional risks, and their integration into enterprise risk management processes.
- Collaborate with senior consultants to develop climate scenario analyses and ensure alignment with regulatory expectations.
- Conduct research on industry-specific climate risks, trends, and best practices to inform client deliverables.
Data Management and Analysis
- Help to create solutions and effective systems and processes for data collection, validation, and quality assurance to ensure reliable accounting of data.
- Utilise specialised carbon accounting software and tools to streamline data management and analysis processes.
- Analyse carbon emissions data to identify trends, patterns and opportunities for emission reduction strategies.
- Conduct scenario analysis and sensitivity assessments to evaluate the potential impact of different initiatives on our organisation's carbon footprint.
Stakeholder Engagement and Collaboration
- Collaborate with the Sustainability and Risk Advisory Services teams and other service lines to support cross-service line, local and national engagements.
- Collaborate with our clients to ensure the integration of carbon accounting practices into their business operations.
- Work closely with RSM colleagues across the national network to drive engagement and education around carbon accounting and its importance to our clients’ businesses.
- Liaise with external stakeholders, such as regulators, and industry groups, to ensure compliance and participate in industry discussions on carbon accounting best practices.
Market Trends and Opportunities
- Research and evaluate emerging trends, methodologies, and technologies in carbon accounting to enhance accuracy, efficiency, and transparency.
Qualifications and Skills
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in environmental science, sustainability, accounting, or a related field.
- Proven experience (2+ years) assurance or advisory experience in Professional Services or a relevant industry position
- Demonstrated emissions, energy and sustainability experience
- An understanding of carbon accounting standards, methodologies and regulations, including the National Greenhouse and Energy Reporting Scheme (NGERS), Greenhouse Gas Protocol (GHG Protocol).
- Excellent analytical skills, with the ability to collect, interpret, and analyse complex data sets.
- Familiarity with sustainability and ESG reporting frameworks (e.g. GRI, SASB)
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with internal stakeholders and external partners.
- Detail-oriented with a focus on data accuracy and quality.
- Ability to work independently, prioritise tasks, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Knowledge of Australian carbon market mechanisms, such as the Emissions Reduction Fund or Carbon Pricing, is a plus.
